What Is Gesha Coffee?
Gesha (also spelled Geisha) is a variety originally from Ethiopia, world-renowned for a floral, tea-like cup profile very different from more common varieties. Our lot comes from La Palma farm, in Palestina, Huila, at 1,750 MASL, grown by our allied producer Duvan Quisaboni.
The Process
Honey on a Delicate Variety.
Gesha is usually processed washed to protect its floral delicacy. On this lot, we took a risk with a honey process —leaving part of the mucilage on during drying— to add body and a honey-like sweetness without losing its aromatic character. The result combines Gesha's floral complexity with the honey process's creamy texture.
Cup Profile
Maple Syrup, Jasmine and Bergamot.
This lot scored 88.25 SCA points in cupping, with a perfect 10/10 in sweetness, clean cup and balance. Maple syrup and jasmine on the nose; bergamot and lemongrass in the mouth; a lingering floral aftertaste, medium acidity and creamy body.
